Growing coffee, like cacao, takes a lot of sweat, blood, and tears. As consumers, we are responsible for choosing sustainable beans that were cultivated by respectably paid farmers, working under ethical working conditions, and not by exploited slave and/or child labor. We can guarantee ourselves 100% guilt-free coffee by buying FAIR TRADE. Look for this symbol on the coffee bag’s label:
Yes, it is slightly more expensive to go this route, but we can take pride in knowing that that extra pocket change is going directly to the Fair Trade cooperative, which is a collective of farmers, instead of the profit-hording middlemen. And we can rest at ease knowing that our organic petit noir is promoting ecological, economical, and ethical stability in a developing country.
